What the regional front reports showed by 27 March 2025
A look back at attacks and fighting in Ukraine's regions in the days before 27 March 2025, from Sumy and Zaporizhzhia to Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts.

What was happening in Ukraine's regions in the days leading up to 27 March 2025? Reports from 21 to 24 March described strikes on cities, shifting control of a village and an explosion on the Russian side of the border.
Attacks on cities
On 24 March, a Russian missile attack hit a hospital, a school and a residential area in Sumy. Ninety people were injured, including 17 children. Sumy is the capital of Sumy Oblast, where Russian forces had occupied some settlements since the invasion began on 24 February 2022, though they failed to capture the city itself.
Two days earlier, on 22 March, an overnight Russian drone attack on Zaporizhzhia killed three people and wounded twelve. Several apartments in residential areas were targeted. On the same day, Russian artillery fire on Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast killed three people and injured one.
Luhansk Oblast
On 23 March, Ukrainian troops reportedly recaptured the village of Nadiia in Luhansk Oblast. On 24 March, a Ukrainian artillery strike in the same oblast killed six people, among them several journalists from Russia's Izvestia newspaper and the Zvezda state media network.
Across the border
On 21 March, a gas pumping and measuring station in Russia's Kursk Oblast was set on fire after a major explosion. Russia and Ukraine blamed each other for the attack.
Taken together, these reports showed civilians in Sumy, Zaporizhzhia and Pokrovsk bearing the brunt of attacks in the days before 27 March 2025, while fighting continued in Luhansk Oblast and on Russian territory.
