What the regional reports showed by 13 October 2025
A look back at strikes in Donetsk, Sumy and Belgorod oblasts in the days before 13 October 2025.

What was happening in Ukraine's frontline and border regions as of 13 October 2025? Reports from the preceding days pointed to civilian casualties on both sides of the border.
On 11 October 2025, a Russian strike on a church in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk Oblast, killed at least two people and injured four others, one of them critically.
A few days earlier, on 8 October 2025, a drone strike on a house in Sumy, in Sumy Oblast, injured a family, including a 4-year-old girl who was in a critical condition. Dozens of civilian infrastructure facilities were also damaged. The strike came during the 2025 Sumy offensive, amid Russian strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure.
Across the border
On the same day, 8 October 2025, a Ukrainian missile strike killed three people and injured nine others in Maslova Pristan, Belgorod Oblast, Russia. A search and rescue operation was under way for others believed to be trapped under rubble.
Belgorod is among the Russian regions, along with Kursk and Bryansk, where cross-border shelling and missile strikes from Ukraine have mainly been concentrated since Russia's invasion began on 24 February 2022.
The wider picture
The Sumy strike fit a pattern of Russian attacks on infrastructure. From 2022, such strikes hit civilian areas beyond the battlefield, particularly critical power infrastructure. By mid-2024, Ukraine had only a third of its pre-war electricity generating capacity, and some gas distribution and district heating had also been hit.
Taken together, the reports from 8 to 11 October 2025 showed how the war reached into residential streets, places of worship and local utilities in several regions, leaving local authorities and rescue teams dealing with the aftermath.
