What the regions faced in mid-July 2025 as Russian strikes continued

Posted: | Filed under: Regions | by Borderland staff

A look back at the strike on Chernivtsi and an SBU operation near Kyiv in the days before 15 July 2025.

What was happening across Ukraine's regions in the days leading up to 15 July 2025? Reports from that period point to a large-scale Russian air attack and a security operation in the Kyiv region.

On 12 July 2025, Russia launched 597 drones and 26 cruise missiles across Ukraine. Two civilians were killed in Chernivtsi and 20 others were injured. Infrastructure was damaged in several cities.

Separately, an SBU colonel was shot dead by an unknown armed man in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district on 10 July 2025. Two suspected Russian FSB agents, accused of carrying out the killing, were themselves killed on 13 July during an SBU raid on a safe house in the Kyiv region.

Together, the reports show a few days in which regions far apart, from Chernivtsi to the area around the capital, were affected by the war, through mass air strikes and through a security operation following a killing in Kyiv.
