What the regions faced in mid-July 2025
A look back at two incidents reported in Ukrainian regions in the days before 18 July 2025.

What was happening in Ukraine's regions in the days leading up to 18 July 2025? Two reports from that period show the range of pressures outside Kyiv: one from the front-line war's long reach into the west, the other from a training ground in the north.
On 12 July 2025, Russia launched 597 drones and 26 cruise missiles across Ukraine, as reported at the time. Two civilians were killed in Chernivtsi and 20 others were injured. Infrastructure was damaged in several cities.
On 16 July 2025, a separate incident occurred at a training ground of the Ukrainian Ground Forces in Chernihiv Oblast. A cadet opened fire on fellow servicemen there, killing two instructors. The cadet was then arrested.
The two events were unrelated, but both were reported from regional settings: a city hit by a large-scale aerial attack, and a military range where training ended in deaths. As of 18 July 2025, those were among the recent regional reports from the preceding week.
