What the Sumy post strike and Kyiv Oblast attack left behind
A look back at two Russian strikes reported in the days before 26 July 2026, one on a postal facility in Sumy and one on a training ground near Kyiv.

What did Ukrainian officials report about Russian strikes in the days leading up to 26 July 2026? Two attacks, on two separate dates, set the picture for that weekend.
On 24 July, Ukrainian officials said a Russian ballistic missile struck a private training ground in Kyiv Oblast. The site was hosting a defence-industry event. Officials said the strike killed 10 people and injured nearly 100.
Prosecutors opened an investigation into possible negligence in how the event was organised. The reported inquiry therefore looked not only at the attack itself but also at the arrangements for the gathering.
On 25 July, Ukrainian officials said a Russian drone strike on a postal facility in Sumy had killed two people. The target was a civilian logistics site, and the reported toll was far smaller than in Kyiv Oblast.
Both incidents were described by Ukrainian officials as part of Russian attacks during the Russo-Ukrainian war, and both were already on record when 26 July began.
