What the Zaporizhzhia strike showed on 6 November 2024

A retrospective on a missile strike on a Ukrainian regional centre and a reported new front in Kursk Oblast.

What was the situation on 6 November 2024 for Ukraine's regions? Two reports from the preceding days framed it.

On 5 November 2024, a Russian missile strike on Zaporizhzhia killed six people and injured at least 20 others. The strike hit a city in the south-east of Ukraine and added to the toll on civilians in regional centres.

On 4 November 2024, Ukraine said its forces had engaged North Korean troops for the first time in Kursk Oblast, Russia. The statement pointed to a change in who was fighting in that part of the war.

The two reports concerned different places: one inside Ukraine, one across the border in Russia. Together they described a war affecting both Ukrainian cities and the area where Ukrainian forces were operating in Kursk Oblast.
