What was asked of Iran over Flight 752 by 9 March 2020?

A look back at the diplomatic pressure over the flight recorders of the Ukrainian airliner shot down near Tehran.

Where did the Flight 752 inquiry stand on 9 March 2020? Two months after the Ukrainian airliner was shot down, the question of access to its flight recorders was still being pressed on Iran.

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was a scheduled service from Tehran to Kyiv. On 8 January 2020, the Boeing 737-800 flying the route was shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps shortly after takeoff, killing all 176 people on board.

In the days before 9 March, the issue remained on the diplomatic agenda. On 4 March 2020, Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne urged Iran to allow access to the flight recorders of the Ukrainian passenger plane.

The call underlined that the recorders, which hold the flight data and cockpit audio, were central to the demand for answers about the downing. As of 9 March 2020, the appeal for access was the latest public step reported in that effort.
