A look back at two reports from the days before 28 May 2020: the death of a Ukrainian lawmaker in Kyiv and a US military accusation over Libya.

What had been reported by 28 May 2020 about events in Kyiv and in Libya? Two developments from the preceding days stood out.

On 23 May 2020, people's deputy Valerii Davydenko was found shot dead in Kyiv.

Three days later, on 26 May 2020, the United States Africa Command accused Russia of deploying fighter jets to eastern Libya. According to the command, the aircraft were meant to provide air support to Russian mercenaries allied to Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. Haftar was locked in a civil war with the UN-recognised Government of National Accord.

The two reports concerned different countries and different circumstances, but both were part of the news picture as 28 May 2020 began.
