What Zelensky planned for the UN Security Council after 4 April 2022
A look back at the diplomatic and public appeals that surrounded Ukraine's war in the first days of April 2022.

What was Ukraine's president preparing to say to the world on 4 April 2022? As reported at the time, Volodymyr Zelensky planned to address the UN Security Council the following day, 5 April.
The address came after another appeal to an international audience. On 3 April, in a pre-recorded message to those attending the Grammy Awards ceremony in Las Vegas, Zelensky urged the audience to tell Ukraine's story and the truth about the war, on social media and on television.
The days before also brought a signal from northern Europe. On 2 April, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said a decision on Finland joining the NATO military alliance had to be made before that summer. She said Russia was not the neighbour Finland had thought it was.
Taken together, the reports from 2 to 4 April 2022 show Ukraine seeking to keep its account of the war before global audiences, from an entertainment-industry ceremony to the UN Security Council, while the question of NATO enlargement was being discussed openly in Finland.
