Zaporizhzhia's toll and the Kursk claim, as 6 November 2024 began

Posted: | Filed under: Regions | by Borderland staff

A look back at what Ukraine's regions and front lines had absorbed in the two days before 6 November 2024.

What did Ukraine wake up to on 6 November 2024? The reports available to that point pointed to a country absorbing strikes in its cities while the war moved onto Russian soil.

On 5 November 2024, a Russian missile strike on Zaporizhzhia killed six people and injured at least 20 others. The city, in the south-east of the country, was again among the places where civilians bore the cost of the war.

A day earlier, on 4 November 2024, Ukraine said its forces had engaged North Korean troops for the first time in Russia's Kursk Oblast. The statement came in the context of the Kursk offensive, in which Ukrainian forces were operating inside Russian territory.

Taken together, the two reports showed the range of the conflict as that day began: casualties in a Ukrainian regional centre, and a claim of a new foreign presence on the Kursk front.
