What did 13 January 2020 follow for Ukraine's air carrier?
A look back at the reports that preceded 13 January 2020, from the Tehran crash to the opening of the TurkStream pipelines.

What had the days before 13 January 2020 brought for Ukraine's economy and its commercial links? Two reports from that week stood out: the crash of a Ukrainian airliner near Tehran and the inauguration of a new gas pipeline route.
On 8 January 2020, a Ukraine International Airlines (MAU) aircraft crashed near Tehran, in Iran. All 176 people on board died.
On 11 January 2020, the President of Iran officially acknowledged that Iran's armed forces had shot the aircraft down by mistake with a missile. The admission came three days after the crash, and by 13 January 2020 it was the central fact in the loss of the MAU flight.
On 8 January 2020, the same day as the crash, the heads of state of Turkey, Russia, Serbia and Bulgaria formally inaugurated the TurkStream gas pipelines.
The reports gave the period two distinct economic threads: the loss of a Ukrainian carrier's aircraft and the start of a new gas pipeline project involving four countries.
