A retrospective on the war-related reports from the days around 14 October 2022, including a strike on a market and a Russian move against Meta.

What was the picture for Ukraine's economy and public life on 14 October 2022? The reports from the days just before that date point to continued attacks on civilian areas, including commercial spaces, and to pressure on major technology companies.

On 12 October 2022, Russian forces struck a marketplace in Avdiivka, in Donetsk Oblast. At least seven civilians were killed and eight others injured, according to reports at the time. The attack hit a place of everyday trade, part of the wider pattern of strikes on civilians during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Battle of Donbas.

On 11 October 2022, Russia added Meta Platforms, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, to its list of "terrorists and extremists". The stated grounds were that the company tolerated Russophobia and allowed calls to violence against Russians.

The reports from these days do not set out economic figures or policy decisions. They record the conditions in which Ukrainian economic life continued: shelling of a market in the east, and a widening Russian campaign against a global social media owner.
